2-Methylbutane, CAS 78-78-4, is miscible within ethanol, diethyl ether, insoluble in water. As a solvent, it has lower dissolving power than pentane. It can be applied as the deasphalting solvent. 2-Methylbutane, CAS 78-78-4, can also be used as the solvent for catalyst of the production polyethylene. Besides, it is used as the foaming agent of EPS (Expandable Polystyrene) and polyurethane foam.
