Ethylene glycol, 107-21-1, is miscible with water and acetone. It is a synthetic and odorless liquid, but has a sweet taste. It is used to make antifreeze and de-icing solutions for cars, airplanes and boats. It is also used in hydraulic brake fluids and inks used in stamp pads, ballpoint pens and print shops. Ethylene glycol, 107-21-1, acts as an intermediate in the synthesis of 1,4-dioxane. It plays a role in organic synthesis as a protecting group for carbonyl groups. Besides, it is used as a useful desiccant due to its high boiling point. Ethylene glycol, 107-21-1, enjoys an important application as a medium for convective heat transfer in automobile and liquid cooled computers. Ethylene glycol, 107-21-1, should be kept in sealed containers in cool, dry and ventilated place, away from strong acids, oxidizing agents, bases and aluminum.
